Welcome back to the VLOG LMST series! If you saw my previous video, you know I tried tightening my power steering belt to stop that annoying squeak. It helped for a bit, but then the air-cond belt started acting up. Upon inspection, the belt was looking worn out. Since a new belt only costs around RM10 to RM15, it’s a no-brainer to replace it before it snaps!

The Project: AC and Power Steering Belt Refresh

In this video, I tackle both the Air-Cond (AC) belt and the Power Steering belt. I also planned to swap out the tensioner pulley, but I ran into an interesting discovery regarding new vs. old spare parts.

Key Steps Highlighted:

  • The AC Belt: To get it off, you’ll need a 17mm wrench for the tensioner nut and a 12mm socket for the adjustment screw.
  • The Marking Trick: “I always make a marking on the 12mm adjustment screw before loosening it. This ensures I know exactly where the tension was before I started.”
  • New vs. Old Bearing: “I actually ended up keeping my old tensioner pulley! Even though I bought a new one, the old bearing spun much smoother and longer. Sometimes, the original parts are higher quality than the new budget replacements.”
  • Power Steering Belt: “This one requires a bit more effort. You have to loosen two 14mm nuts in the front and one 12mm nut at the back. I even had to start the engine for a split second just to rotate the pulley into the right position to reach the screws.”

The Verdict

“The job was a bit of a squeeze due to the tight engine bay, and the April heat was no joke! But after getting everything tucked in and tightened, the LMST is running quiet again. If you hear a squeak in the morning, remember to just give that 12mm screw a tiny turn to tighten the tension.”
